The following pages are chie?y reprints of papers published by the author during the last fifteen years in scientific and other periodicals, and in the pro ceedings of learned societies. Some of the papers have been partly re-written, and the information brought up to date. The following chapters have not been previously published - Mercury, the Minor Planets, Uranus, Neptune, and on the Distances of the Fixed Stars. It is hoped that this little work will be found to contain matter of interest both to the general reader and also to the more advanced student of Astronomy.
