It is with some misgivings that the lectures are now given the permanence of book form, for While the principles have, so to speak, some enduring quality, and it is urgent that they should be better under stood, the grounds for more popular interest seem to lie in the illustrations of those principles expressed in current values, which are necessarily quite ephemeral.
