Publisher's Synopsis
This richly illustrated book, replete with several QR codes for short, original films, focuses on being compassionate to creatures less than ourselves. From the Introduction: We go through our lives consuming the flesh of other living animals despite our capacity to refrain from doing so. It has been estimated that we kill 55 billion animals each year for food (Hussain). We are willingly neglecting the welfare of 55 billion lives every year when we have other food options for our survival. In the 21st century, we have a moral duty and responsibility not to continue the horrendous suffering endured by animals simply for profit and appetite. Ending the unimaginable suffering of animals for which we bear a responsibility will increase our own eudaimonia since being compassionate to others also benefits us. As we expand our moral circle of compassion and consideration, the individual self can gain a greater sense of well-being.
