Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online.
George Washington-a renowned hero of the American Revolutionary War, commander-in-chief of the Continental Army, and president of the Constitutional Convention-became the first President of the United States under the new US Constitution in 1789. After he successfully completed two terms, Vice-president John Adams, a Federalist, defeated Jefferson in the 1796 election. During his one term, he encountered ferocious attacks by the Jeffersonian Republicans, as well as the dominant faction in his own Federalist Party led by his bitter enemy Alexander Hamilton. In 1800 Jefferson defeated Adams for the presidency in the 1800 election. The book looks at the political developments in the United States during the historic tenures of these first three presidents.
