Publisher's Synopsis
Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The matter of lesbian, gays, bisexuals, and transsexuals in the military is one of great sensitivity and within American politics. During President Bill Clinton's presidency, and finding momentum from campaign promises, efforts to repeal the existing ban on gays in the military met with much resistance from the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Congressmen. The compromise was was is known as the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy which allows LGBT to be part of the military as long as they do not reveal their sexual preference. This book brings the subject out of the closet and into the 21st century, including a review of the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, legal precedence concerning gays in the military, current sodomy laws in the United States, and how other countries around the world handle the issue. Project Webster represents a new publishing paradigm, allowing disparate content sources to be curated into cohesive, relevant, and informative books. To date, this content has been curated from Wikipedia articles and images under Creative Commons licensing, although as Project Webster continues to increase in scope and dimension, more licensed and public domain content is being added.
