Excerpt: ...the continually increasing amount of that universal force agent, the Cosmic Ether, which is required as we ascend in the grade of material condensation, from the diffused gas, to the solid metal; and since these metals, and their compounds, together with the free, or uncombined gasses of the atmosphere, form almost the entire sum of matter terrestrial, may we not look upon it as fairly proven by such synthetical demonstration, that density of mass in matter, and amount of inherent force potential, as electricity, or condensations of the Ether, are proportionate, each to the other. And since the best results in the storage, and development of electricity, are invariably found in the most dense material, it may be readily infered, that this is true, not merely as to the differing forms of the same substance, but as a general law governing the differing densities of dissimilar elements. The interactions between electricity, or the cosmic force, and Matter, as shown in the battery cell, thus lead us to regard the solid state, as that in which the natural elasticity, or expansibility, of its material molecules, is overcome, in the imperious grasp of an increased Force environment, by which each individual atom of mass is held in a comparative rigidity of position. A still further revelation as to the nature, and action, of the material molecule itself, comes to us through the data which have been acquired of the phenomena of light radiation. In that transmission of vibratory energy in material molecules, which, as recognized by the special sense of hearing, is designated sound, we are able to obtain a fairly analogous interpretation of the phenomena involved in molecular light radiation. Here we have a vibrating body communicating sound waves...
