Publisher's Synopsis

Henri Rousseau painted A Lion Devouring Its Prey (or The Hungry Lion Throws Itself on the Antelope, Le lion ayant faim se jette sur l'antilope in French) in 1905.

This was Rousseau's second jungle painting (after 1904's Scouts Attacked by a Tiger) following a 10-year hiatus caused by the generally negative reception to his Tiger in a Tropical Storm of 1891.
