Publisher's Synopsis
The Georgia 25th Infantry Battalion Provost Guard was organized 25 June 1863 as a provost guard for the city of Atlanta. It served as guards in Atlanta and was engaged in arresting deserters in north Georgia. The battalion was disbanded by S.O. #147, A&IGO (24 June 1864), just prior to the battle of Kennesaw. The order directed that the men liable to conscription be turned over to the nearest enrolling officer, and those liable to enrollment in the reserve force be turned over to Maj. Gen. Howell Cobb, commanding reserves.
