Publisher's Synopsis
The young aristocrat Raphael de Valentin, after losing all his fortune to pay his father's debts, intends to commit suicide. He comes by chance to an antique dealer, where an old man shows him "a skin of sorrow" with the power to grant all the wishes of his owner: "If you own me, you will own everything, but your life will belong to me."
