Stalagmites are the formations that rise from the cave floor. They are made of mineral deposits and rain, and they continually stack up. A stalagmite will grow a few centimeters in 100 years, but it can take centuries to form. While children may not realize it, some creatures live in caves. Among these are bats and a variety of other creatures. Even the common crickets are found in caves.
