Missouri is one of the most popular state in the USA. People might have actually lived in the state now known as Missouri for up to 20,000 years ago. Many hundreds of years later Native American cultures, including the early Missouri tribe, began to inhabit the vast land. In 1682 France claimed a wide swath of territory that included much of what is today Missouri.
