The book is a series of devotional messages on the Gospels, emphasizing that Jesus Christ calls His disciples to a higher standard of living than we are inclined to want, do, or experience. "Higher" does not mean more religious! Rather, it means to follow Jesus, rather than rules, regulations, or traditions; to put Jesus first, rather than give our own desires priority; to love one another, rather than condemn or judge; to put feet, hands, and hearts to our"doctrine" and "theology"; to recognize that we have not arrived and that we must continue diligently to ask, to search, and to knock. As we do so, the Holy Spirit will do abundantly above and beyond all that we can think or expect to make us more like Jesus.
