Publisher's Synopsis
The Lakes School is located in the heart of the Lake District in Cumbria, England. It stands very close to the actual site of the buildings that once housed three hundred Jewish children who had survived the Holocaust and were transported to England in August 1945. The Lakes school grew out of Calgarth Primary School, which had been built to educate the children of a wartime housing scheme closely associated with the aircraft factory that stood on the shores of Windermere at White Cross Bay. This publication is a revised and updated version of a booklet originally presented to children at the Lakes School to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day 2008.
