Publisher's Synopsis
Presents the words and photographs of a group of homeless young people whose work with the Cockpit Cultural Studies team culminated in a major photographic exhibition entitled, "Down But Not Out" launched at Kings Cross Station. The core of the book is a photo essay by young people, representing their first hand experience of being young and homeless - images that provide an alternative to the popular media youth stereotype of the 80s. The accompanying text describes fully the methods and approach of this ambitious and innovative project, which was the last production of the Cultural Studies Team. It will be a useful book for all who work with young people using photography or teaching cultural and media studies and to those in the field of social and political studies.
