Publisher's Synopsis
This volume contains six case studies of buildings which were deliberately designed to minimize environmental impact. One of the buildings featured, a medical centre, has been assessed as the most energy-efficient non-domestic structure in the UK, and demonstrates that the materials, techniques and skills are now available within the building industry to reduce to a minimum the need for fossil fuels. The key issue of energy conservation is examined throughout the text, and other aspects of building, such as toxic materials, energy content and potential harm to customers, are considered.
