Publisher's Synopsis
This work is a product of the NCC programme of research and development in computer based training. It is aimed at disseminating effective methods and techniques to enable the potential of information technology to be fully exploited in the education and training field.;The convergence of computer and video technology to produce interactive video systems has meant that CBT is no longer restricted to text, and video need not be linear and passive.;This integration of two quite diverse technologies has produced interactive video; a completely new training resource.;Interactive video is considerably different from both its constituent parts, in the manner in which the image on the screen is controlled and the flexibility it brings to the designer of training materials.;A lesson based on interactive video may consist of moving pictures (archived documentary, drama material); still pictures (slides, photographs, paintings, maps); computer graphics and text. This mixture of media motivates the learner and contributes towards the effectiveness of the training resource.;Interactive video can be achieved by interfacing video tape or video disk players to computers. Alternatively, a genlock system can be introduced which would provide the extra facility of text overlay.
