Across Latin America, leaders have begun to recognize the tremendous costs of ignoring the needs for environmental deficits created by past developments and the lack of controls on present and future growth. Contributors to this volume consider the domestic and international factors that shape the progress of environmental policy-making in Latin America. Particular attention is given to political institutions, the effects of neoliberal reforms, growing environmental activism, and the role of the international development community.
