Publisher's Synopsis
This work explores the myriad factors at work in the process of post-Communist democratization in Russia, with a focus on the role performed by social capital and socio-economic development. It explores the role performed by economic development and social capital leading to the democratization of the Soviet Union and it contributing to the consolidation of democracy in contemporary Russia. The results offer some grounds ofr a guardedly optimistic assessment of the prospects for making democracy work in Russia.
