The massive gold menorah, symbol of the Jewish faith, was torn from Jerusalem's Holy Temple during the final sack of the city. Carried in triumph through Rome, when the Roman Empire's capital moved to Constantinople the menorah went with it... but when the Crusaders plundered the city in 1204 it had vanished. Now, archeologist Jack Howard is diving in Istanbul's harbour, hoping to uncover lost treasures, including the menorah. Meanwhile in a dusty cathedral library in England someone unearths a long-forgotten mediaeval map. A race is on to find the gold, and there are those who will stop at nothing to get it.
