Publisher's Synopsis
This book is intended primarily as a revision text for students studying for the CXC biology examination. The facts are presented concisely and in such a form that they can be easily revised. To this end, the material in each chapter is presented under a number of sub-titles, key words are shown in bold type and diagrams have been used wherever possible. The relationship between structure and function is continually highlighted. Particular emphasis is placed on the inter-relationships between organisms and their environment, the adaptations of organisms to their environment and the social and economic implications of biology, in keeping with recent trends in biology.;Whilst the text has been written principally for pupils, teachers should also find the information included in the chapters entitled "Disease and Man" and "Life and the Environment" useful; these topics being ones which were not included in such detail in the GCE O-level syllabuses previously taught in the Caribbean. In addition, teachers should find the text useful in reducing the time spent giving notes so that they may develop a more experimental approach to the subject as is required by the CXC biology syllabus.
