London, 1973. Nina Dryden waits nervously in the car with her fiance, Matt, just outside Pentonville Prison. Matt's twenty-three year old son Alex is to be released after serving four years in prison for killing a young boy in a hit-and-run accident. Nina is anxious to meet Alex for the first time and to make the best first impression she can. But she's also carrying the heavy burden of a secret. A secret about Alex. The energetic teenager Alex once was has become a difficult and angry young man. His sister Beth, Matt and Nina do all they can to bring him back into the family fold. Nina even finds him a job working as a clerk in a solicitor's, but Alex begins digging into the firm's system of locating alibis and uncovers some sinister truths.
