Publisher's Synopsis
Following the failure of the Carsington Embankment Dam during construction in June 1984, a great deal of interest and attention has been focused on the design and construction of clay barriers for embankment dams and on the interrelation between clay barriers and embankment and foundation designs. This book covers a range of recent developments in this area.;With contributions from a number of eminent authors, the book covers site investigations, the properties of core materials and construction techniques and control. Chapters also deal with advances in analytical techniques and the influence of core geometry on behaviour, together with deterioration of clay barriers. The design and use of instrumentation for monitoring the behaviour of embankment dams with clay cores is also presented.
