Publisher's Synopsis

The years 1890-1900 were rich and varied ones for the art of the illustrated book in Britain. There were revivals of the Arts and Crafts movement, the emergences of art nouveau, a renaissance in etching and the first stirrings of commercial art in advertising. The art of the fin-de-siecle is a recognizable and coherent body of work and the purpose of this study is to present a survey of illustration at this period and its principal exponents: Aubrey Beardsley, William Morris, Walter Crane, Charles Ricketts, William Nicholson, Gordon Craig and others.
