Left almost alone in the world when her mother marries a rich American, Laura Flanagan leaves Ireland to go to Australia, hoping to build a new life there. During the long-haul flight to Australia, she meets Declan Martin, a young horseman bringing the Irish champion, Lancelot's Pride, to have a crack at the Melbourne Cup. But when Laura tells him she must find an Australian husband in order to live there, Declan doesn't handle it well. In Singapore they part bad friends but when he walks into the Irish pub where she's working in Melbourne, the attraction is still there. Can Laura recognize true love before it's too late?
