Social issues are problems that influence a considerable number of people in society. At a personal level such issues can arise through factors beyond that individual's control. Social issues may be distinguished from economic issues, although some issues (e.g. immigration) have both social and economic facets. Many social issues are viewed as controversial and result in much public debate.
