Publisher's Synopsis
The Prince of Wales, son of King George the Third, has ascended the Regency, beginning an age of extravagance amongst London's fashionable elite. Humphrey Soame, the only son of the Duke and Duchess of Thurlow, belongs to a fast set of gentlemen, with an insatiable taste for the card table, horse racing, and buggery. Wishing to impress his erstwhile friends, and furnish his passion for youthful male prostitutes, Soame has stretched his finances by borrowing heavily. Now, notorious in London society, it is necessary for him to flee the molly houses of St James', and the gaming clubs, to seek the solace of his family seat, Thurlow Hall. Life in the sleepy village of Thurlow is about to change, as Humphrey Soame manifests his perversion, jealousy, and ultimately, revenge on its innocent occupants; repercussions of which trigger events lasting decades and spanning continents.
