This is the sequel to "The Fall of the Shogun" which was set in 19th century Japan, and recounted the fortunes of John Mung, the hero of this saga, who changed the course of his country's history. In this novel Mung has married Saiyo and has become the "Black Dragon", the advisor to the Emperor.
