Peregrine Hale killed her parents when she was sixteen years old; she blames herself for the fire that caused their deaths. Now, at 19 years old, she is an introverted college student and witch-in-training, living with her aunt and teacher in Bolton Castle, her family's ancestral home in Bolton, Colorado. With the assistance of a young Inquisitor and historian named Sebastian and a beautiful Mandrake spirit named Alraun, Peregrine must discover the secrets to the flying salve in order to cross the Hedge, face her fears, and save her town, all while managing the gardens, passing her classes, and falling in love.
