The slab boys - Phil, Spanky and Hector - apply themselves with awe-inspiring gusto to everything but their job - grinding up colours for the designers in the carpet factory. Phil knows that there's more to life than larking about and is preparing a portfolio to get a place at the Glasgow Art School. The other two have aspirations as well - Spanky wants to go to America and become the next Elvis; Hector dreams of taking the luscious Lucille from the mailroom to the staff dance. But the path to fulfillment is clutterd with obstacles, and by the night of the staff dance emotions are running at fever pitch and the scene is set for a final showdown.
