During recent years, the Public Health Service has been strength ened; cooperation with State and local health organizations has matured and extended; the foundations have been laid for a health service tr'uly national in scope. Without such a foundation, health organization in the United States would have been ill-prepared to meet the current great needs of military and industrial defense.
