Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from A Description of the Deverel Barrow, Opened A. D. 1825: Also, a Minute Account of the Kimmeridge Coal Money, Most Mysterious and Nondescript Article
It is always gratifying to patronize a work that is deserving of patronage; and such is the one that you have now laid before the public; most highly interesting, novel, and' unique in its way, for no such barrow has ever yet been discovered in our island, nor has the coal money ever been so minutely investigated. I have been for many years past engaged in Opening the numerous barrows about Stonehenge, Abury, and Everley, in Wilts; and you have been more fortunate in this one tumulus, than I have been in hundreds: nor have I in my museum more than one of the upright form, like those numbered 2, 3, 7, 12, 15, 92.
