Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Grain Sorghums
Heavy soils, on the other hand, are difficult to handle, and are apt to be cold and in poor physical condition at the time for planting, which may result in a poor stand. Soils containing alkali are also objectionable but the sorghums are more resistant to alkali than most field crops. Nevertheless, large amounts of soluble salts in the soil will exert an injurious effect upon the growth of the plants, thus decreasing the yield.
