Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Caliban by the Yellow Sands
TO mention but one of the 1916 Tercentenary Objects necessary to solve, it was needful for this Masque to provide, in brief time and focussed space, as large a num her as possible Of important Shakespearian parts for eminent professional actors and actresses to interpret. Hence, I devised the Inner Scenes, as here published, scenes which, of course, Shakespeare did not originally conceive to be spoken on an immense outdoor scale, yet which eminent Shakespearian actors would hardly have consented to act in pantomime. The words of my own text in this volume have, for the most part, been carefully intended for the large outdoor scale, whereas those of Shakespeare in the Inner Scenes were not so intended.
