Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Transactions of the Bibliographical Society, Vol. 10: October, 1908, to March, 1909
Summary. - When Pope Pius X determined to take steps to prepare for a critical revision of the Latin Vulgate, the work was offered to the Benedictine Order and was accepted at an international meeting of the Superiors held in Rome in the May of last year, 1907. A few months later to my surprise I was chosen as the first president of the Commission of Revision, and in the autumn of last year had to go to organise the work at Rome, where I received from the Pope personally the strictest charge that the revision should be conducted upon the most approved scientific methods of modern times. I am glad of this opportunity to set forth some points connected with it.
