The present volume forms part of a series of Calendars of the Close Rolls from the reign of Edward I. To that of Edward IV., the object and character of which are explained in the Preface to the first volume for the reign of Edward II. (a.d. 1307 The text has been prepared, with the sanction of the Lords Commissioners of His, Majesty's Treasury, by Mr. W. H. B. Bird, b.a., and the Index has been compiled by Mr. C. T. Flower, m.a., of this Office.
