Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from The Woman Deborah

The hot African sun streamed down out of a blue sky that was almost over-vivid in its intensity, shower ing glittering shafts of golden light over bare and waste plains. Here and there a few milk bushes reared up their heads, and stray tufts of long, rank grass could be seen, but the plains were mostly sand, dry and arid sand. The one touch of softness and idealism came from the distant range of low hills hills that shaded gently from mauve to pink; but otherwise the country for miles round looked cruel and bare - absolutely shorn of beauty, and the pre vailing impression was that of fierce barrenness.
