Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Our Coal and Iron Industries, and the Men Who Have Wrought in Connection With Them
This little work, dealing with the life and work of John Wilkinson, Father of the English Iron Trade, was written by the late John Randall, and published by him in 1876. So far as is known, there are to-day very few copies of the work now extant. Two are known to be in the barrow-in-furness district, and, possibly, there are one or two other copies to be found elsewhere.
AS the pioneer of the British iron industry, and, indeed, of the iron industry of the world, it has been thought by those responsible for the re publishing oi this volume - kind permission for which has been accorded by the Misses Randall, daughters of the author - that the name of John Wilkinson Should be kept in remembrance by all interested in that industry, especially in a district like Barrow-ln - Furness, in which district John Wilkinson spent some of his early days and where. His remains were interred.
