But after the whole affair was well nigh fet tled, two things occurred, which were pregnant with difficulties; and which indeed we bard/y Turmounted. Mr. Many jbeets was of Opinion, that a good title was of in finite confequence: he feemed to fuggefi that a good title was even'better than good matter. For, faid he; a good title will often carry through bad matter: whereas a bad title often mars and damns the belt matter upon earth. We were extremely uneafy upon finding almofi every tit/f, however infignificant, ufurped by our predecef fors of immortal memory; and Mr. Fairtype pulhed back his peruke with much chagrin and in gloomy filence, to find not only the outbar but the book/21137 pofed. At length, Gentle men, quoth I, the incident of your coming hi ther will furnifh a title. From you, my good oifitors, call we our paper the visitor An excellent hint verily, quoth Mr. Fairtype; his eyes fparkling with pleafure. Under this title, continued I, we may convey our fentimcnts with pmpriety enough and not be out of our way, whether we or] t public or private life; whether we attend the court or the city; the camp or the flage; the church or the conven tiele the chamber of forrow, the focial fire fide, or even the lhop of the bookfeller.
