Hog numbers were up this January chiefly because of the greater number of 1955 fall pigs on hand. Stock sheep numbers were almost unchanged, but fewer lambs were on feed. Based on these inventories, total livestock slaughter and meat production in 1956 are expected to advance to another new high.
