Excerpt from Crop Production Practices and Resources on Farms, Northeast
An attempt was made to account for all labor, power, machinery, contract or custom work, and material used in producing and harvesting the crops, In summarizing the data, certain items were combined unless it was apparent that the material or practice was increasing in importance and probably would become largely universal, For example, the use of pickwup balers, commercial fertilizers, and some pesticides appeared to be increasing in importance These were listed and the percentage of the acreage covered was given so that at a later date changes in practices may be estimated.
