Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from An Eulogium on Caspar Wistar, M.D., Professor of Anatomy: Delivered by Appointment, Before the Members of the Philadelphia Medical Society
Pursuant to the arrangements, which arose out of that event, in the institution to which we belong, it has be come, on the present occasion, my province to speak, and yours to hear, of that which must shortly put me to silence, and take from you, the power to listen.
Death, under whatever circumstances it may occur, but rarely fails to be the harbinger of sorrow. So multi plied are the ties. That bind together the human family, and so numerous the cords of sympathy, which entwine around the human heart, that this is true, in relation to the death of the humblest individuals - even of those, whose years had precluded them from bestowing bene fits, or imposing obligations.
