Publisher's Synopsis
Alphonse Allais (1854-1905), was probably the first man in history to paint an abstract picture. His canvas, "Anaemic Young Girls Going to their First Communion through a Blizzard", was only one of a series of works. He was also a humourous writer. This is a collection of his best and funniest stories translated and introduced by Miles Kingston, columnist for "The Independent", whose own books include the series on "Franglais".
