Il Cappelli aveva riscontrato questa ottava in un codice sincrono posseduto dai sigg. Eredi Rossi del quale nessuno studioso n� prima aveva fatto menzione, n� dopo; sino al dicem bre 1912, quando Gius. Agnelli, direttore della Comunale di Ferrara, annunciando il dono che il prof. D. Taddei aveva fatto alla sua biblioteca d' un codice antico di mano di Gabriele Ariosto, fratello di Ludovico, contenente i 5 canti, prov� ch' era quello appunto il ms. Degli Eredi Rossi, citato dal Cappelli.
