In the first place, its value to students of Elizabethan literature is self evident. Bearing this m mind, I have made no attempt to alter the spelling in any way, nor have I marred the charm of the narrative as known to contemporary readers by the insertion of unsightly notes. These are rele gated to the end of the volume. The original head and tail-pieces have also been preserved, together with sixteenth-century capitals.
