MY orders were to wait at Lisbon till Mr. Hussey wrote to me from Aranjuez, and ac cording to the tenor of his report I was to use my discretion as to proceeding onwards, or re turning home; and this being a point decisive as to my credit or discredit in the management of the business I was entrusted with, -i was most urgent and precise with Mr. Hussey in conjuring him to be extremely careful and cor rect in his report, by which I was to guide my self, and this he solemnly promised me that he would Observe.
