Eaton, Nicholas, was, on the 11th of March appointed captain of the Winchelfea fri ate; and this is the only mention we find made of him uring the reign of queen Anne. A confiderable time, indeed, elapfed, after the acceffion of king George the Fir?, be fore we find him holding any commi?ion: the fir? is in the year 1717, when he was appointed to the Che?er, of fifty us, one of the {hips ordered to be equipped for the altic under fir George Byng. We believe, how ever, owin to his having received his commi?ion very late in the gafou, that the {hip was not in a condition to proceed on that fervice by the time the ?eet failed. His next command appears to have been that of the Dartmouth, which, as well as the former, was a fourth rate of fifty guns. In this (hip he accompanied fir John Norris to the Baltic in the year 1720, as he did again in the following year, and, on the return of the ?eet, was promoted to the King?on, of fixty guns.
