We have here, then, the title. Not of this whole of Matthew. But only of the first seventeen verses. Cf Jesse ell For the meaning of these glorious words. See on o. 16. At. Jesus, the name ven to our Lord at His circumcision (luke. Ii. Was that by wgich He was familiarly known while on earth. The word Christ - th a plied to Him as a name by the angel who announced His to the shepherds e, ii. And once or twice used in this sense by our Lord Himself (ch. Xxiii. 8-10; Mark. Ix. 41)
