Chapter the first gives an account of Bernardo Tasso, the father, who married in 1539, and settled near Naples, at Sor rento, where his son Torquato was born in 1544. Bernardo enjoyed from Sanseverino, Prince of Salerno, a pension of 300 crowns, and expected with his wife a liberal fortune, but was eventually deprived of the one and disappointed of the Other, and obliged to resume the military service.
