Whitaker observes, that the genuine and proper name was Ccm', Y-cerw', or Cartoons-cc, the head ones; and the appellation of Cenirnagni, Cenimanni, or Cenomanni, signify only the head area; Man hein; equally a British and Saxon word, and retained to this day to the Brae, Traces of the iceni are yet discoverable hythe names of many places in the tract they inhabited; as Ickleton, llnming, (now Baning, ) lkenthorp, Iksborough, the Iocoing Way, and various others, which are evidently derived from the same source.
