All of the various contributors have read the entire book and made suggestions, but only the writer of each chapter has had the authority to make final decisions on his own work, for which he is responsible. Other contributors may differ, and in the case of such controversial subjects as the work of Mr. G. Wilson Knight or of the group sometimes called the New Critics may differ rather widely. The authorship of the several chapters is indicated in the Table of Contents.
